I'm home

I got back from Phase 2 on Wednesday. I had lots of fun. There was 11 kids there, a few from our district and a few from the Chugach district. Every night we had to rate how our group did for the day with things such as putting forth our best effort, staying on task, and lots of other things. It was called the sliding scale. We had to get a seven or better to be able to go out and have a leisure. A few things we went and did were ice skating, neon bowling, swimming,  staying in and watching a movie, and a few other things. One night we didn't get to go out so we made up a game to play. It was still lots of fun.

We learned interviewing skills, went on job shadows, and worked out every morning. I also got to tour the UAA campus with a few other kids. We also did a lot of career researching. I thought going to the Phase was really helpful.

Other then that, next week is state testing and thankfully, I get to stay home :D isn't that awesome? I think it is!

The week after that is the talent show. We have been working super hard on our science project but we haven't come with anything for the talent show. I think we will be fine. For our public speaking that we always have to do, I get to read one of the papers I wrote. Its about video games not causing violence :)

Thats all for now, until next week!

Sorry about not posting on Friday

We were working on our science fair project for the AA Meet this year. This year, Zach, Frankie, Tyler, and I are going.

We are measuring the speed of light using a microwave. We take things such as hot dogs or anything else that can either explode or melt and microwave it. We watch for melting or bubbles or cracks, depending on what we use. We have already try marshmallows, hot dogs, twizzlers, and some chocolate chips. Before we began, Alex made us look up and explained the speed of light and the electromagnetic spectrum to us. The AA Meet/Prom will be from the 9th of April to the 13th.

Today I am leaving for a thing called Phase 2. The "Phases" are part of the "School to Life" program. Its a program that allows students to work on Employability standards while also learning to be more independent. We also get to job shadow some people with jobs we might want. I think I'll have lots of fun. I'll try to take some pictures but I never really think about it.

Thats it for now, I'll be gone for about two weeks so for the next two Fridays, there won't be anything that is posted :)

Spring Break

Last week was Spring Break. The week before that was the Career and Technical Training sessions. This week has just been a normal week.

Tyler, Erin, Frankie, and I all went to the training sessions. Erin took Word Processing and Excel while Tyler, Frankie, and I took welding. Erin learned more about the inner workings of Word and Powerpoint. Frankie, Tyler, and I we learned about safety in the shop, and we also learned how to use a few different tools. We had other classes such as Water Safety, First Aid and CPR, and Photography. There were some other kids that were there from LPSD and some kids from Bristol Bay.

We learned a lot in our welding class. We learned how to use and band saw, a grinder, and two different types of welders. We learned how to stick weld and how to mig weld. We also completed a 10 hour OSHA safety course.

They are going to offer some more classes next year and I hope I can get accepted to go again.

Other then that, we won't have another school event until prom. Although I am going to Phase Two in a few weeks. I will keep you updated on things happening in our school, have a great weekend!
