Last week, Tyler and I traveled to SAVEC in King Salmon for the welding class. We brought home new welding jackets, gloves, binders full of information, and new automatic welding hoods. It was a great week but it has left my face chapped because of the heat.
We learned about stick welding (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), MIG welding (Gas Metal Arc Welding), Oxy Fuel Cutting, and Plasma Cutting. We were supposed to learn about TIG welding (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) but we didn't have enough time.
With the stick welding, we were able to learn about adjusting the machine to get the best weld and a few different types of electrodes use in the welding process. We also learned about how to adjust the machine for the MIG welding. Everyone got to learn how to set up, turn on, and use an Oxy Fuel cutting torch and the different types of gasses that can be used to cut metal with.
The last two days, we had a competition to see who could get the best cuts and welds. We were judged on a stick weld, a MIG weld, and an oxy fuel plate that we had to cut. The prizes for each weld or cut was a brand new DeWALT angle grinder. Tyler was able to take home one for his Oxy Fuel cut.
While at SAVEC we were able to take a soap stone carving class and drivers ed. Almost everyone took the soap stone carving class.
SAVEC was very fun.
This week, all we have been doing is just crafts and fixing up little odds and ends before the semester ends.
Nancy has been teaching Isabella and me how to crochet. I have started to make a baby blanket and Isabella is going to make a bird. On Friday we are probably just going to watch a movie.
I won't post anything until next year when the semester starts up again. Hope everyone has a good winter break
