This is the second Friday of the new school year. Last week, just about right after I had posted that blog post, we had gone on a Diabetes Prevention walk. The whole school and anyone who wanted to walk with us, walked down he beach to an old house along side a creek. It was lots of fun. The little kids got paired up with the big kids, so nobody would get lost or anything.
Speaking of the elementary students, they are growing butterflies. They just got the caterpillars in this week. It will be about 5-10 days for them to go into their cocoons or “chrysalis”. They will be in their chrysalis for 7-10 days. Then they will break out of their cocoons and the elementary will get to take care of them for about a month. I will take pictures of all the stages and I will say something about them every week.
The high school students have been getting used to the online lessons. Every day from 9am to 10am, some students have reading lessons online that are taught by other teachers in our district. The students also have math online from 10:30am to 11:30am.
Me and one other student started practicing for cross-country. The meet will take place from the 14-17th of September in another village in our district called Nondalton. It is a 5k race or 3.2 miles. We practice everyday after school with our counselor, Kasie Pletcher. She will be traveling soon, which means we will have to practice without her.
Our high school students and elementary students have started reading books for a competition called Battle of the Books. State librarians choose 10-13 books for grades five and six, seven and eight, and then books for high school. We read the books and then we answer vague questions about the different books. The questions start with “In which book….”. For more information, you can visit

We also have our principal, Mr. Manning, here for a couple days. He is the principal of Port Heiden, Pilot Point and Chignik Lagoon. He is also our head teacher at the moment. We just had a LSAC yesterday, which is why he traveled here.
That’s it for this week. Hopefully everyone has a good weekend! I will post pictures next Wednesday
