But that's because we have all been very busy with the artists coming into our school. In the last week of April, we had Diane Selanoff come to our school and teach us more about our culture. We learned twelve native songs and dances. She also taught us how to skin sew sea otter pouches. When she first came, she asked us our favorite animal and she told us what is was in Alutiiq. The day before she left, we had a performance. We invited the community members. We performed our twelve dances and set out our carvings and pouches.
During the last two weeks, we had Allison Warden come into our school. She showed the older students how to use iMovie and they made their own environmental movies. She produced and directed a play with the younger students and after their play, they did four Alutiiq dances. We presented our movies and the little kids had their play before she left. Allison did her own show called "Ode to the Polar Bear".
We put the movies on the newly made school Youtube channel. Another student and I are going to edit the footage of the play and also put that on Youtube. You can find our schools channel here.
Next week is our last week of school. Everyone worked hard and had a great school year :)
Next week we are going to have village clean up, ball race fundraiser(like the duck race but with balls), and our school/community picnic.
This will be my last post :) I hope everyone has a great summer and I will see you guys in the fall.
